NEW API Questions For Beginner

Hi,

I got my new free API KEY associated to my PWS working but I have some questions:

1. How many calls a day do I have?

2. I easily got the xml format  and the metric data of the station I wanted by modifying the code, but how do I get the data in French language?

https://api.weather.com/v2/pws/observations/current?stationId=IQUEBECS76&format=xml&units=m&apiKey=MY KEY

3. Will we eventually get more precision digits and the wind direction in words instead of degrees?

Thanks

Hi,
concerning your questions:

  • 1500 calls per day or 30 per minute
  • I do not think there is anything making sense to be translated in the api you are using to download PWS data - there are only numbers anyway - for the forecast you can set the language
  • For Wind more digits than zero usually do not make sense since a normal weather station will also not be that accurate. So 360 degree in integer do make perfect sense in my mind. The words for South West etc. you would have to build a function for e.g. parsing an array.
Hope that helps.

Hi, for me, the new API is also not usefull. Where are the digits? Looking to temperature without digits is not that, what I expect from a weather site! Please change it, otherwise I have to look for another service!

Since this API is to be used for uploaders and the API discussed is for PWS download in theory all of us uploaders should have the most precise data anyhow? Of course you can enrich, but in the end 11 or 12 degrees Celsius

Thanks for you help. I understand for the French data that it is useless here. I had it set for Fr before because I was getting the wind direction in words. I understand that I will have to pay for a few code lines that will convert degrees into words for Wind direction. It is necessary since most of the population doesn't know how it works. I would personnaly be happy with the API and continue to share my data if we could get decimals for temperature and some other values and Wind direction in words, as before.

Éric, you want wind direction as "northwest", "north-northwest" etc?  Isn't it easier to translate that into your own level of precision with the compass degrees as given?

I don't imagine that the words for wind direction are coming back.  It's so much more flexible and efficient to give degrees on the compass and let the user interpret.  There are sooooo many languages out there that it would need to be translated into.

I made a script to convert it into letters. Thanks

There is going to be added precision (decimal rather than only integer numbers).  That work is underway, and we hope to have it ready by the end of April.

It's actually Dr. Gardner.  :-)  Or just Victoria.

The work on this continues.  They have to be sure that it will not create problems in already-existing systems.
