Could you add sun radiation information too?

Would love to have more information on environmental conditions such as sun radiation and air quality

Great idea :-)

Many of the weather stations already have sun radiation (but we do not have a proper inventory of which stations support the feature).

For example, this request has current solar radiation and UV:
/conditions/q/pws:KCASANFR70.json

UV should be in the forecasts (we compute the data), we just need to add it to the specification.

EPA data should be in United States current conditions and forecasts, again, we need to add it to the specification.

Thanks again,
John

Looking at igwentmo3,for example, they have solar radiation data on a minute by minute basis for each day, yet the weekly stats show a solar graph but don't contain the data and the monthly shows neither the solar nor contains the solar data.

This seems to be inconsistent, or just an oversight perhaps?

I, too, would love a list of those stations that report solar radiation. Thanks.

+1 for solar radiation.
It would be very useful for HVAC simulation & modelling purposes!

I see that solar radiation is now listed on the daily summary for applicable weather stations. While it appears on-screen, it does NOT appear in the summary section of a call to the wunderground API for current or historical data queries from a software program. The detailed readings taken each time the station reported a reading does appear in the detail records. Does anyone know how to use the detail records to calculate the value on screen? I am trying to get the value to calculate Evapotranspiration - if anyone has any insight, sample code, or solution, I'd love to hear about it. I thought the solar radiation value would be an average of all readings, but that doesn't seem to jive with the sample data I looked at.

I posted a script that computes envirotranspiration for irrigation controllers under this thread.

http://apicommunity.wunderground.com/...

It computes the clear-sky solar radiation for a location, and then estimates the ground-level radiation by parsing through hourly weather conditions like "Cloudy" or "Clear".

Let me know if it works or if you have questions. It is written in python and I have tested it on a linux system so far.

Thanks very much for sharing your excellent work. Do you have a comparison of ET calculations based on using the cloud cover estimates vs. actual solar radiation measurements?

Frankpc did a pretty detailed comparison and it was about 5% error from what we could see

I'd like to just add to the other's interest in this.  I'd like to use the API to pull historical sun radiation from different locations to overlay on solar panel (PV) production data.  This is to allow me to automatically detect if the solar panel production is inline with the sun for the given time periods.  If the solar panel production doesn't match the solar radiation, this would indicate that something is wrong with the solar array and may need to be fixed.
