Does Geolookup only return (recently) active stations?

I'm still messing around with geolookup and I've noticed that most of the stations returned by geolookup only started uploading data within the last 6 months. i.e. not many of them have data from 2 or more years ago. The simple explanation is that just aren't that many "old" stations on the PWS network. However, I'm wondering if geolookup (or the WU database which it is querying) has some filter on active or recently active stations. If my suspicion is correct, is there a way to find older, not currently reporting stations?

Thanks!

Totally out of curiosity, any plans on how to handle this in the future when you have a mix of stations of that haven't been reporting for years and those that just got plugged in last week? Maybe some sort of metadata regarding "first date active" and "last date active"?
