excessive API usage alert caused by unknown visitor

I literally have 24 "wunderground API usage alert" emails since 12 am today saying that my API key exceeded its allotted usage by making 23 calls within a minute but the limit is 10.

Google Analytics says that I had one visitor yesterday & one visitor today.

How do I figure out who this is that is causing this usage so that I can block them?

And is it weird that every time it is exactly 23 calls within a minute? Is this possibly something getting stuck on wunderground's side? I would expect the number to be more random.

Submit a ticket at http://wuhelp.wunderground.com/index.... and include you API key so it may be specifically investigated.

Apparently, they're working on it, but I was still getting error messages yesterday, so I'm assuming it's not resolved yet.

I've gotten some emails back from them while they're looking into the issue on my end. It's slow going, but hopefully, we'll get to the bottom of it. When Google Analytics shows 2 page views and WU usage shows 37 calls, there is definitely some discrepancy.

I hope it's an easy fix once it's known what the problem is.

We don't know what we should do, any solution for this issue?

Thanks!
Roger.

I have not checked in a long time and they never fully responded to me with a fix to the problem. If you're still seeing it, then it's likely still broken. I don't know if it will ever be fixed. What this means is that the free service might be fine, but if you want to move to one of the paid tiers, there is no guarantee that they will bill you properly.

The errors happening for @reinstoss there's a problem of going over 100 queries per minute. Given the traffic per day, that volume makes sense and does not seem like a bug. Most of the time these have turned into issues of coding on the developer side and we have not seen a widespread problem with the stats. We use the API on internal products as well and the stats match what the usage level is.
