Hail Response Field Always Returning '0' using /History_yyyymmdd

At what point does the 'hail' response field turn to a 1? I've searched for places known to have hail on a specific date to only find a big old 0 in that field. In fact I've searched multiple zipcodes and cities several months back and no hail in any of them mentioned.

I'm using only the /history_yyyymmdd JSON api.

Any suggestions?

Ok so I've been doing some digging the past few hours.

I've come up with a few interesting things. Firstly, it seems that historical data from the current year about hail is a pain in the a$$ to get ahold of. The NOAA/NCDC/NWS does not offer a nice version of this.

Now I've looked into extremely large hail, and I've found that in 2010 July 23rd (according to this article On Wunderground.com) there was one of the largest hail storms recorded, producing an 8 inch chunk of hail.

So now I ask myself, why when I do a history lookup as such:

http://api.wunderground.com/api/API_K...

I get nothing mentioned for hail other than "hail":"0" for all returned fields.

Have you had luck with the hail feature?
