I need to get a list of the active severe weather alerts. Is there an easier, less expensive way to do this other than by spinning through each zipcode/city?

At the moment we don't have something like that. The best thing to do to see them is check out http://www.wunderground.com/severe.asp but that's not a programming answer. Maybe we can put something together in our next development round to generate a long list in JSON.

Nobody has this ability right now. The best that can be done is to grab an atom feed from NOAA and parse it out.

You guys need devs? I'd be more than willing to spear head this endeavour :|

It would also be helpful to have a unique id per alert. so that I could easily parse out which alerts I've already seen.

I reached out to my local NWS office (Blacksburg VA) and they pointed me to the NOAA NWS Alerts center: http://alerts.weather.gov/

It has a great XML/ATOM feed broken out by state, also a Nationwide feed. They're updated every 2 minutes.

There is also a technical guide to the CAP (common alerting protocol) here: https://www.oasis-open.org/committees...

Hope this helps you with the severe WX alerts... it sure did for me.

We would be very interested in this too. Infact, its high priority to have a full list of returnable alerts.

Any progress?

Not yet, but development is still on the roadmap and coming as soon as I can make it happen.

still on the roadmap and coming soon, for basic functionality that we can do from NOAA is unacceptable. We need results, not roadmap excuses. 8 months is a long time to wait for what should be a baseline feature.
