I suppose you need to define "full". If what the API's "astronomy" feature provides is not enough for what you need, then I guess make an enhancement request to WUG for more astronomy data. Or, look into other astronomy data sources.

OK, I appreciate I should have expanded on my question: WUG API astronomy option only gives the sunrise/sunset times and Moon age/illumination. Twilight times are easily computable as well, but I could not find any implementations or APIs providing Moon rise/set times for a given lat/long. Going back to astronomy books seems an overkill for what is surely a standard computation?

Help much appreciated!

I've searched this forum, and other forums, and still cannot find an API that provides moon rise and moon set data. Can someone PLEASE give me a pointer?

Thanks in advance!

I'm also very interested in this. Hope it will be added to the Wunderground Astronomy API at some point.

To get the moonrise data, I installed the XTide program (http://www.flaterco.com/xtide/) as I needed some tide data as well. It provides sunrises and sunsets as well.

However there are other alternatives, my first alternative was a PHP class http://pastebin.com/TYfssCph. There are many others as well.

Hope this helps!

We are going to enhance the section of astronomy data to include the different data points you mentioned. This will be happening in Q1 of 2013.

Will this include the astronomical data included a location's wunderground page, e.g. sunset, sunrise, actual twilight, nautical twilight, civil twilight, and astronomical twilight?

@borismavra - thanks for the pointer. I implemented the pastebin PHP solution, which is pretty straightforward. I tested it successfully across four time zones, but it seems to have a bug where moon rise/set times are off by one hour in a subset of the NY/Maine area. It's not a daylight savings problem. The paste bin link to the corresponding Javascript solution (I prefer this) is a 404. XTide looked fairly complicated and time consuming... so I'm holding on that for now.

Brendan - I'm glad to hear you will release some astronomy enhancements shortly. For me (and I suspect most people) two astronomy data points carry the day - moonrise and moonset. Any chance we could get these two items added soon - before a full functionality release? That would REALLY HELP...

I know it will really help, and I'm sorry we can't add it sooner. We're going to make a V2 to add new fields because there's the potential to break people's pages or apps if we add fields they aren't expecting. We want to test it all and make sure it works, and then release it in a V2.

hi all,

I wrote a program to give full data about ( sun & moon ) including ( but not limited to ) Altitude, Azimuth, refraction & atmosphere effects, illumination desk of the moon, ( galactic / equatorial / horizontal ) coordination for any given time ( 4000BC to 8000AD ) for any giving location on earth, the data can be given in the shape of database records ( or rows in excel spreadsheet ) so you can apply PIVOT tables/charts on the data, and apply all kind of ( Advanced Excel functionality ) on the data including ( but not limited to ) Data Mining......

may I ask you for what type of application you need this data for ?

Please reply to my email ......

With thanks

Fawzi
