Is it possible to get the closest weather station with wind data from a geo coordinate?

If I use the conditions feature and specify a geo coordinate it does not select the closest weather station (with or without wind). It may be that the "Best Forecast" is the reason for that?

Do you have a suggestion for an approach I can take to get the closest weather station with wind data? (From a geo coordinate)

What I also struggle to understand is that if I do a geolookup on a coordinate, it does not return the closest pws either. Am I right or am I doing something wrong?

It could be how the lat/lon is mapping to the city, which then gives you the closest station to the center of the city.  What does the URL look like when you call it?  There is no filter to put on the URL to make it return only stations that have wind data, and not all stations have wind data.

Thanks for the quick response:)

I do this call:
http://api.wunderground.com/api/XXXXX/conditions/q/59.9439349863678,10.7863249350339.json

Then I get the conditions from "IOSLOOSL28", which is 4.26 km away. I was hoping to get the conditions from "IOSLOOSL32" which is only 0.48km away. It does not make sense to me that when I specify a coordinate, it is not used to get the conditions from the closest weather station.

1) But this means that "IOSLOOSL28" is chosen based on the center of the city?
2) As my application will be mainly focused on wind data, does the conditions feature always return a weather station with wind data?

Getting a station that is guaranteed to have wind data is not supported at this time.

As for why the selection process uses several criteria to choose a station.  Quality score, distance and reporting times all figure in.

Hello,
piggybacking this question to get my own answer: the API does not support any type of guarantee, is that right? I'm looking into fetching rain data from specific weather stations, and was hoping to be able to confirm that they provide rain measurements...

Thank you

Correct, there is no way of knowing if a station is capable of providing rain data.

I want to access certain data of my provided by my weather station. I would accept to have different station nearby as a work-around. But is this still not working with Weather-Underground? If not , can you recommend a different weather portal where I can get this API features? Thanks

Open Weather Map has a much better API, but Wunderground has more weather station, especially after they incorporated the Netatmo weather stations. Too bad their API does not seem to improve.

I would like to get the data from my own PWS but, every time I get the data from a PWS 10 miles away.
