My webcam no longer working after the update.

My weather camera has worked flawlessly for months, after the update it is no longer online. Do I need to make changes to the ftp settings on the camera to get it working again?

I think you will find it is functioning just fine.

If you go to the Wundermap and turn on the webcams layer, then zoom in to your station, I bet you will find it there.

Mine are showing offline even though the images are still being saved, and they do appear on the Wundermap, just not associated with my station.

I cannot explain what is going on with camera/station associations, but WU has had an issue with dropping the associations for a long time (new servers or not).

I did as you suggested, my camera is not showing up. I can see a few others but unfortunately not mine. I tried deleting it and setting it up again and still no luck.

On the camera interface i get an error that claims "FTP server login failed". For kick and giggles I reset my password and still no luck.  Am I missing something?

I can't get my foscam to connect either.  Not sure why, but it is definitely pretty frustrating.

I have never used my foscam cameras on WU because they are inside.  My exterior cameras are SC3V and they work fine.

I checked and the image type is set to image.jpg.  I have a few Amcrest POE cameras for outside surveillance that I could never get to work with Wunderground.  So I did some research and found out that Ambient Weather was selling a camera that was compatible with Wundergound.  I also found out that Foscam made them for Ambient Weather so I decided to buy the Foscam version because Ambient Weather had sold out and were not going to get any more.

I put up the Foscam and set it up and boom it worked, and stayed working for months and months until the upgrade.

I would hate to have to chuck it and buy another manufacture but I may end up doing that in the long run if I can't get this figured out.

Thanks for offering some helpful tips!

If you have to, I personally have had great success with my SV3C 960p WIFI.  You said you were using POE so I think you might like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Security-Surveillance-Waterproof-Connection-Compared/dp/B01G1U4MVA

You can check out my latest image here:

http://cam.meckweather.com/image.jpg

Be sure to check at night so you get an idea of the infrared range.  I have a piece of software that overlays the weather (used to be WU but unfortunately not anymore as that code had to be rewritten, i know - sad but true) onto the image.  It also automatically creates a 3 hour and daily time lapse.  The 960 WIFI and the 1080 POE are the same price.

Not trying to be a salesman, just a personal review.

I see no mention in the new documentation of a file size limit.  It used to be 150K per image, so I had to upload only a thumbnail of the real image to WU.

Thanks to whomever is working on this at WU!!

Still not associated with my station, but a step in the right direction!

I like your setup!  If your cam status has changed I will wait a bit until I pull the trigger on a new camera.  Saved the camera's you suggested in my amazon shopping list.  Thanks for the suggestion!

I run two different software packages.   Previously all the forecast data came from WU but not anymore :(

You can see them at:

www.w34.meckweather.com

and

www.meckweather.com

I use the w34 package mostly from my phone as it really looks good mobile.  The computer version does not look bad either.  The other package provides many more options and many more details as well as intensive analysis available in the header tabs.

I was heartened by the the change in status.  I added the Foscam Test back in.  I still cant login.

I used filezilla to try and do something manually but it still did not even try and log in (Error: Server closed the connection.).

After about 30 minutes it finally told me the username was accepted, but my password was wrong (Response: 530 Login authentication failed).  This is after I was able to log in manually on the other two usernames (DeviceIDs) using the exact same password.  I think there is some kind of error when they (or their system, if automatic) builds a new device on an account and they are not inserting the proper password.  Maybe after a time the proper password will be installed, but WU needs to fix this device build issue ASAP.  Yesterday, I deleted the test device within an hour thinking it was something I did that caused me to be unable to login.

Now with filezilla's help I know it works and the problem is on WU's side.

I found that uploading from my Ambient (Foscam) camera to a regular FTP site the camera added a whole directory system that is not configurable. I finally found a way to bipass the direct upload and am getting the invalid password error. Also, looking at the file I'm generating, I think that it is larger than the max allowed by Wunderground even if it DID accept my password. Everything was working perfectly until 2 April 2019, after that it fell apart. I'm not sure on whose end the problem started - Ambient or Wunderground. Currently I'm trying to set up a direct link to Wunderground rather than FTP and so for no joy. I need to explore to see if there is a customer service email for it like there was in the old days.

*Waving her hand*

That would be me.  The official customer service feedback site is here:  https://feedback.weather.com/?b_id=17298

But at the moment, it's mostly me, so since you're here already, you can just as quickly email me with the details.  That will get it into a fix queue slightly more quickly.

This is the same problem that many of us are having.  I have tried to give you as much information as I can.  It seems to be a Foscam specific problem as my SV3C cameras are sending.

reviewing my logs, it tells me that the FTP Password was incorrect (or username invalid). I removed the CAM and readded it .. the site sees my camera (but if I attempt to upload an image manually, it fails and WU shows it offline again) .. hope that helps others.

So.  Suddenly one of my cameras (dehatterCAM3) is getting an error 404 and not accepting new images.

Edit:  I went to devices and selected edit CAM3.  I did not actually edit anything, but clicked save.  The webpage is now responding, but still not updating.

Edit2:  It began accepting images again at 8:07 pm

I'm having the same issue with an Axis camera that has worked for a couple years without issue. Starting about 4 weeks ago, it began to fail to upload image.jpg Once I checked, I rebuilt the device and changed my password, no luck. Using FileZilla I tried to connect and upload, it gave the same error 503 login fail. Further it showed the user name correct but the password incorrect. What has WU done to the password portion of the FTP upload...

Mine are still out.  Not on the dash board and the server will not accept the images.  Any tricks here I can try?  Been a paid member of WU since 5/2011  Cams always worked until the March "transition"WU performed. Whats the status please.

I have been trying to set up a cam for my weather station but after many hours I am finding conversation that the ftp server isn't working.  Is this correct? I cannot ping ftp.webcam.wunderground.com  It comes back immediately that it can not find the server.

URL may be working for some but not all. Been trying to upload URL since last week when you said it was working. Not one image has come up. Could you please ask some questions to the techs to see what we should expect before we can FTP again and let us know? I don’t understand why nobody seems to know anything with ref to ETR
Thank you

From what I'm understanding the reality may be that they never put their FTP server back on line.  I cant figure out how some folks are lucky enough to seem to connect with the URL when a simple ping to the server "ping ftp.webcam.wunderground.com" gives the reply that the server is not on line.

Yep, all of us are puzzled. Yet, nobody knows anything other that it’s broken and we don’t know when it will be fixed. Sure seems simple enough to me to communicate with the IT folks to keep your PWS data providers informed. Then again, that takes effort.

The system is broken and they have not provided any answers as to when it may be back. Some folks have cams working simply because they were lucky. Anyone’s guess as to when/if they will ever come back. Sorry for the bad news.

I have been testing this to see what may be going on.
I used FileZilla in debug mode and captured the results.
It appears it connects, reconciles my name, then fails on the password entry. I changed my password and verified it is correct, but still the FTP server fails to validate my password.

Here are the results:

There is nothing you're going to be able to do to make the FTP server work.  The FTP server itself isn't working.

URL not working for me. I have just finished changing from a non functional FTP upload of my webcam image to use URL. My webcam is still shown as inactive on the "My Devices" page. I have checked that the URL is correct but WU is still not pulling the image. I am assuming that an image name of "sample.jpg" is acceptable

Webcams still need to go through an approval process.  This could take several days. In the past it has typically been done 1-2x/week.

Are you serious? Mine was working mostly until I took it offline to change the power supply to it. Now it is not working. Just pathetic what has happened to the way web cams don’t work reliably now. They used to work all the time. FTP test upload works fine but webcam shows offline. Go figure.

OK, so for those of us who have had our WebCams up for years and they are no longer working, do we need to delete them and resubmit? Is the FTP and URL server back up. I have been uploading for years they have stopped uploading due to the server problems. I am currently uploading URL and FTP . Please advise if the servers are up and if we should re-submit our cams. Some direction would be appreciated.

Thank you,
John

The URL server is working, as far as I know.  If anyone has issues or problems, please submit them through the feedback form, and copy me with a case number, and I will follow up on it.

The FTP server is not working.  It is still in the queue to be worked on.  I would recommend holding off on trying to muck around with those right now.

Looking forward to seeing all the lovely back yards!

Same here. Uploading URL for past three weeks. Not showing up on weather underground. Victoria, you didn’t answer my question. Do we need to delete and re-submit to get the cams approved? Can you ask the team if you don’t know the answer? Where is the feedback form we need to submit?

Thanks,

Hi Victoria,

My webcam is also now being pulled via URL by WU. So far only 1 image though.

Is there any documentation giving information on the refresh period. I know it can be set in the settings of the webcam. I have mine set at 2 minutes but I think that number might be being overridden by a system setting at WU since I only see 1 image in playback.

Many thanks for your assistance

John and Jeff, if you haven't yet, can you submit tickets via the contact form on WU, https://feedback.weather.com/customer/portal/emails/new?b_id=17298, and then email me (Victoria.gardner@ibm.com) the "case number" it gives?  It helps me to keep everything in one place, where I have a scratchpad to keep notes on what's going on, and exact information about the cams.

The FTP webcams are getting closer to being ready.  I am preparing for round 2 of URL webcam issues, so feel free to join the fray if you haven't contacted me yet.

Thank you everyone for your patience.  I know it's been longer than you would have liked.
