My webcam no longer working after the update.

My weather camera has worked flawlessly for months, after the update it is no longer online. Do I need to make changes to the ftp settings on the camera to get it working again?

Jeff, How did you get it to go?  I used Victoria's link.  Selected Weather Underground, Webcam ID, and left an explanation.  When I try to send the mail it states, "Validation Failed - Weather Underground invalid"   Ahhh!  I cant even get a ticket in.

Don't pick Webcam ID on the pull-down.  I can put webcam back in on the back end of things.  Just Weather Underground, Weather Underground, Other, and then email me or post here with the case number and I'll make sure it doesn't get lost in the crowd.

Don't ever choose to enter the station ID in the pulldown, too.  That doesn't work either.

Hi John, perhaps I misunderstood the question of how I get my weather. I selected Weather Channel, then iPhone app and then stated my problem. Submitted, got a ticket number, posted on the forum to get Victoria’s attention and she responded within the hour.

Perhaps that was a bit sneaky in hindsight but now I am concerned that the tags on the ticket might slow down the process. Hurry up and wait......

I actually change those tags to the right things when I work on the ticket.  So long as I know to grab the case, you're good.

I gave up a while ago!
The like the weather data they are getting, but the images are not of much value to them and the need much server space.
I guess we are screwed!

Here's how I got my camera working with Wunderground.

1. Set up the camera on Wunderground using the URL method (not FTP).

2. When that didn't work after a couple of days, submitted a problem report here:

3. I posted the case # in this topic, addressing it to Victoria Gardner (Official Rep). Victoria did something, and Wunderground was fetching and displaying it within 24 hours:

If it were me, I would just wait.  I hate to see anyone wasting their time struggling with something that's going to be better/fixed soon in any case.  But I have a low tolerance for frustration.

But if you like to struggle, you can try setting one up, and posting to the feedback site if it doesn't work.  I try to catch the webcam and API problems, but I'm pretty busy, so if you don't hear back, you can poke me with a case number.

The programmers are just about done setting up a new upload protocol for the webcams. I am hoping it will be done shortly, and then we can start getting the webcams back up again.

this was posted in facebook by Tim the WU-IBM guy working on webcams.

We're making some changes to the Webcams, if you are having issues, please go to "my webcams" or "my devices" click edit next to your camera. You will see a message telling you you will need to switch to upload key click yes, and then use the upload key in place of your password.

this is how I got mine working.

That is correct, I just set the Key (Goes in the camera password entry) and mine started working...

Within a few minutes, possibly on first upload from camera. Ensure the key provided on the WU site is placed in the camera password location.

I did use the key instead of the password on both cams. Still nothing. Not really surprised it’s not working. Thanks.

Victoria, the cams FTP has started working! One strange item I need to mention however. When you create a cam, it automatically names it jhartloveCAM5 or 6 or 7 or so on. I had deleted all the cams while I was waiting for them to come back. Even if I delete them all and start over it will not start at CAM1. The reason I am telling you this is the weather underground App, seems to only show the first camera you created. CAM1. If I go on the app, my cameras are not available. Just a black image. It’s been this way for a long time.

Can you mention to the team, we need to have the ability to delete the cameras, and restart with CAM1 and so forth.

What do you mean, “change the display routine”? We have no control over the camera assignments like we did before. I can still make them work and view them on the wundermap but the App is flawed. Additionally, we should be able to delete devices and add them starting from 1 and up. Anyone else out there seeing this?

No no, this is not something I would expect you to do!  This is me thinking design out loud.  I'm sorry!

There may be database reasons for not reusing webcam numbers.  These database connections are more complex than meets the eye.

I can confirm that my camera is now online - using the Upload Key as the FTP password. It takes a few moments for the system to get the camera online and work with the collected photos. They will first start to display on the station dashboard page. Then, on the camera summary page.

Victoria, same here. Three cams uploading FTP for several hours. Upload times are varying but consistent. For some reason the images cannot be viewed on the website with my iPad or in the WU App. Still have some work to do.
