Period 1,2,3 in forcast

Just a quick questions. I am new to this and dont have alot of time to read. I pulled a manual request from the api got the dump. I see period 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 what are these. I assume different time frames during the day. Can someone explain? Thank you.

where can I get a definition list of what pop, qpf, and these other things are?

At least in the forecast I use period 0 means today and then 1 the next day etc.

POP means Percent (chance) of precipitation 
QPF means Quantitative precipitation forecast

As for the list, I don't know of anything like that other than

Has anyone figured out how to FILTERXML the individual periods info? For example for day 3... I've Tried period.2, period/2, period//2 and all return invalid results the only thing that works is for period which is the present day so cant filter out the other forecast days or periods?
