Pricing alternatives?

We recently did all the work to integrate the Weather Underground API as a data source in our mobile app, but we misunderstood the pricing tiers and had to pull back at the last minute. It turns out that we will need the Cumulus plan to support the data we intend to show (we need the 10-day and hourly forecasts) but that plan is just *way* out of our budget — jumping from $20/month on Stratus Drizzle to $150/month on Cumulus Drizzle puts it far out of our reach at our current scale. App Store economies are rough!

Is there any movement on either a la carte API options, or perhaps some pricing alternative in the midrange between these two plans? The features in Stratus are so limited that they're not enough for showing a thorough forecast, but we also don't need the radar, satellites, or tide data in Cumulus. I'd willingly pay $30-$40 for the 10-day and hourly forecast stuff, but that's about where we top out.

For comparison, we run Dark Sky's API and it costs us about $15/month for over 100,000 calls and a full detailed forecast. WU's pricing seems really high in that light.

I'm sorry, the prices are as they are published.  The a la carte option is not going to work out.

sad. I as well only need 1 option (animated radar images) and not the other hundred option that the $900/month plan offers. Your pricing strategy is doomed to fail. I will take my business elsewhere, even if it means more work on my part to save myself that massive amount of money.

Have you looked at the AccuWeather API's ?
They seem to fit my budget and have lots of options.
It's pretty easy to switch over as they also return json strings.

James I have, and i see they offer a 6 month trial period, but then they deactivate the api key? Doesn't look like they have any options currently after the 6 months

Maybe I missed something. Yes 6 months free then you have to upgrade.
This is the premium account. 7.95 / month

There are others also. next is 19.95/month.
Although they might not fit your needs.
I'm rewriting my web site with this to compare against WU.
Good Luck.

The price list there is for accuweather premium, which is their online service for consumers, that has nothing to do with the api for developers. If you click sign up for the accuweather api, it literally says all they are offering right now is the 6 month trial and have no plans yet after that.
