subscription update

We're creating a new mobile app. We expect that "Cumulus Shower" plan is sufficient for the beginning. However it's difficult to guess.
If I understand right, if the service calls exceed the allowed volumes according the plan, it doesn't block the access of our app but leads to a loose of a raindrop at the end of day. So when having 3 raindrops there are still 2-3 days left to upgrade the subscription.
When upgrading from "Cumulus Shower" to "Cumulus Downpour" only the price difference needs to be paid?
Are the subscriptions monthly paid and automatically extended? If a cancellation or downgrade of subscription is wanted how can it be done?
