The Future of Station Names

As I have learned the hard way, there is new algorithm that now names new PWS's the name of your "neighborhood" and not the name you give it.  Or at least it is displayed that way.  I deleted my weather stations and re-added it due to a few issues I was having and it was relocated as I had moved.  Is there any plan in the near future to fix or change this?  Basically the way it is now, anyone who sets up a new weather station in the town will all end displaying the same name.

Thanks!

Yes, I am wondering how to change the station name too, mine has the wrong city. (my zip code covers 3 small towns outside of austin.)

I think that IBM has decided, much like "The Borg" of the old Star Trek, to "assimilate" the old weatherunderground users. We are now "station 6 of 9". Mine happens to be station 101 of 103.
As an ex "Beemer" (hey - didn't stay long...), seen this happen time and time again. Sigh.

I had someone yell at me today because they didn't like the name that had been assigned.  There really isn't anything terribly nefarious about it -- there just aren't enough man hours for someone to make sure the names are appropriate all around the world (which of course implies knowing every single language and spelling system all around the world) for all the PWSs, so that we don't end up with screwy names like "XX Street -- Please send help!" or "Dog". I don't think anyone at IBM wants anyone to be a Borg, but we probably all would like to see some level of professionalism and consistency with the names.

As I have said before, they hope to be able to bring back self-naming in the future.  But for right now, this is the system that is in place.

My KTXSADLE3 station was completely deleted and I've gotten no response from the emails other than they can see what I type unless it is above a line that I can't type on. Neither of my webcams have worked since the upgrade... and now unless I create a NEW station, which I don't want.. I want mine to show the name as I had it. Wunderground seemed to have enough people to take care of business under the old system, but can't seem to do diddly with the new one. Most of the issues are not with the users.. its because Wunderground doesn't seem to care anymore. I just hope that someone else comes up with a better platform...  At least my station is uploading to CWOP and the NOAA MADIS system just fine.

Hi there.  I am the same person who is trying to talk to you in the feedback forms.  Send me an email directly:  victoria.gardner@ibm.com

No software preventing me from reading your notes that way.

I would like to change mine to a great name so I know it is mine! I really do not want the city to have my station name. It is fine to let everyone know it is Napoleon, Ohio but the Station Name should be my choice they did not pay for the station or nor do they pay for my internet access to broadcast to the great WU. I love to share but I think I should have the right to choose a reasonable great name not something inappropriate. Mine was going to be a great weather name!

WeatherUnderground has been running fine with users naming their own stations. Now, IBM invents a problem and comes up with very "limiting" solution. Look at the other items (no decimals for one - lol). Killing off of functionality (on here and the other weather platforms they have purchased), and it becomes very clear what IBM strategy is. Buy and then kill off any competition to the Weather Channel.
Oh, and your answer of "this is the system is place - deal with it" is the ultimate Borg response. No joke.
