Tide Data Time Mismatch?

Hello,

The Tide data (tide api call as well as the rawtide api call) give a time for the High and Low tides which are one hour ahead of the times returned by other weather sites. This seems to be consistently the case.

I checked http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaa... and check the return data from the API call to http://api.wunderground.com/api//rawt... as well as http://api.wunderground.com/api//tide...

For example wunderground returns 10:14am as the Low Tide, but http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaa... shows 11:14 am. Similarly for the high tide. The height of the low tide as well as the high tide are correct.

Why is this happening. Is there a problem with the API, or is the weather data from http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaa... incorrect.

Thanks for your help.
With Regards,
Sharat

The tide data is all in EST, which might be part of the problem you're seeing. We'll be fixing that soon in a new version

Hi Brendan,

Thanks for your quick response.

The data for low tide showed the following - using print_r function of php
[1] => stdClass Object
(
[date] => stdClass Object
(
[pretty] => 10:14 AM HST on March 15, 2013
[year] => 2013
[mon] => 03
[mday] => 15
[hour] => 10
[min] => 14
[tzname] => Pacific/Honolulu
[epoch] => 1363378473
)

[utcdate] => stdClass Object
(
[pretty] => 8:14 PM GMT on March 15, 2013
[year] => 2013
[mon] => 03
[mday] => 15
[hour] => 20
[min] => 14
[tzname] => UTC
[epoch] => 1363378473
)

[data] => stdClass Object
(
[height] => -0.07 ft
[type] => Low Tide
)

)

You can see that it is indicated HST and is it 10 hours behind GMT. So I am not sure where it is indicating EST time. I need to show the time in HST (Hawaii time) which is the local time and can adjust from EST time if required in my code.

The same tide information from http://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaa... which is the gold standard indicates 11:14AM, which is 1 hour off, whereas EST 5 hours ahead of HST.
