Using the excel webservice and xmlfilter functions

I am attempting to pull data into excel with the webservice function. The process works well with several of the api features (conditions, forecast, alerts, etc.), however it returns a '#values!' error when I attempt to use the 'yesterday' or 'history' features (when requesting output in XML format). Fwiw, both seem to work fine in returning output in json format, but that is not useful for my purposes (unless somehow that can be converted to xml within excel).

Most specifically, I am interested in populating descending cells with daily high temperature data from a particular pws. The 'history' feature seems best suited for this. I am using a combination of the webservice and filterxml  functions to generate a single data output. For instance, a test function which works well is as follows:

This yields a single value of the current temperature at applicable pws. Help would be most appreciated.
