Weather history for 10 years for 100 airports using Excel web queries in a VBA loop

Are there limits to weather history queries using Excel VBA web queries? Do I need an API key for this? So far I have been somewhat successful getting CSV data (one month at a time, with one row for each day) without a key, but the loop doesn't complete. I need 10 years worth of weather data for the 100 largest airports for a school project. Maybe this is too much data, or my loop is running too fast? Not sure what the rules are for Excel web queries. Same as API calls? Thanks.

Using the API would probably be best, as any other method isn't supported, and the site will eventually block scrapers from access the data.

Is there some documentation on how to use the API using VBA in Excel or Access?

Not from us (this is all we have on the site), but it's possible it might exist on another programming forum, or there might be a general purpose explanation for an HTTP XML / JSON based API.
