Webcam FTP Login Problem

I've been trying to get my webcam to work after being down for many weeks. When I try to FTP in to webcam.wunderground.com, using my camera name and site password, I receive a message the login is invalid. Have check the user name and password numerous times. Wrote three emails to support and no response. Any ideas why I cannot login? I even tried creating a new camera name. Same problem. Thanks for any help and advice.

Here's the reply:  https://feedback.weather.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2974873-webcam-ftp-issues?b_id=17298

Hello,
We have an issue we are working on with webcam FTP.
You may experience problems when connecting or attempting to upload to our FTP site.
At this time, we don't have a workaround -- deleting/adding a cam won't help in this case.
Thanks for your patience while we work this out.
Regards,
The WU Team

FTP webcams are back up.

Login in to www.wunderground.com, and click on "My Profile" > "My Devices".  You will see a column "upload key" that has been added to the webcams, which may show as "N/A" at first.  Click on "edit" for your webcam, answer the question it asks, and it will take you to a display with information needed to set up the webcam again.  My best advice is to keep that page open so you have it to cut and paste from while you're filling in the FTP.

After your accept/deny and make sure everything on the page is okay, you will be taken back to the "My Devices" list, where the upload key will have populated.

You may need to go through the steps to make the key populate in order to get the key to make the upload work.

If you have questions, ask via help@wunderground.com or https://feedback.weather.com/customer/portal/emails/new?b_id=17298

Thank you!

What do you enter in FTP setup for the login? Is it your email address or the webcam's device ID? Is the password the one you use to login to wunderground? Or the upload key?

Username should be this: [username]CAM[number], so like usernameCAM1 ... then the password is whatever key it has assigned to it.

I have two webcams (pws IMERIM5). Until 30 hours ago, both were working and uploading (although a bit sporadically). Then one stopped uploading (it has worked since 2012) but the other is still working fine. The settings in the two uploading programs are the same. One gets into the Wunderground system, the other doesn't. The one that's now blocked is still uploading properly to another site. I wish Wunderground would stop tinkering with their FTP system.

A bit of additional information: I can log in using FileZilla on the same computer, so it's not an authentication problem (as reported a few days ago on this list)

I tried using FileZilla and doesn't work for me. I have just added the webcam to my profile in WU, so I have never had it work. Fails from my Blue Iris server using its FTP and as mentioned, not working on FileZilla. I have tried, WU-, WU_, wu-, wu_ as the prefix of the user, though userids are not normally case sensitive.
PW comes straight from the device settings in WU.

Does anyone else have an update or see anything I am doing wrong on my side?

You may know this already, but here goes. In my case, clicking on the My Profile > My Devices link on my pws page (top right), you get a list of the devices, with the device ID and Key. I use the device ID as User and the Key as Password. Getting the case right is of course critical.

And here I mean the camera ID, not the PWS. Also, after logging a problem via the feedback form in support a few days ago (no reply), my camera has miraculously been uploading images again. All rather mysterious...

Yes, I am doing exactly that. I played with upper and lower case on the ID (just in case) and still not connecting via FileZilla. Direct cut / paste from the device tab of WU Profile page. What URL are you using to "log a problem"?

Also, have you had your user / pw work in FileZilla or any other FTP client?

Here's the URL with the email link: https://support.weather.com/s/?language=en_US&type=wu#ask

I have two webcams, one is a Foscam with its own built in FTP, the second uses a Windows app called ASCuploader, also with its own ftp client. I can log in to webcam.wunderground.com via the Mac Finder "go" option but it shows nothing, and Filezilla works on both Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.14  Given the wunderground FTP server is working, all of these can connect.

I have been unable to set up the "URL" option webcam. Despite having a webcam image uploaded to a remote site, Wunderground will not connect to it. It stays offline.

Thank you for the information. I have opened a support issue with WU and have acknowledgement that they did "get" it, but who knows when / if I get a response.

Another question if you don't mind. Do I need to NAME my image file anything special or does it just "display" whatever I send (FTP) them?

The image have to be image.jpg and the size not be great than 150kb. I have also open a support issue, but they don't answer.

Steve, good question. I think the name of the image sent via FTP does not need to be anything in particular, and the file my all sky camera is sending (via ASCUploader.exe) is called "latest_full.jpg", which works. At least, that's what I *think* it's sending - whatever it is, it's hard wired in the software.  As for the URL approach, I have tried "image.jpg" and other names but it doesn't help. If you can get your camera to send a particular file name, "image.jpg" is likely the safest choice.

It would sure be nice if it could upload my images to my WU page. I even pay to support the page and I can not even upload from my new Bloomsky Sky 2 this was one of the reasons I purchased it?

The process is really simple as it will turn a Toshiba Printer offline Error to active status, so printing jobs perhaps in a queue can continue. Anyone can do the sequence easily by just following the simple instruction detailed herein.

This process is extremely straightforward because it will change a printer repair error to a dynamic state, so a line may have a print job. One can effectively arrange for basic guidance in this way.

Any progress in getting the FTP issues resolved?

I'm getting authentication errors, both with a stand alone desktop FTP app and with the script I use to upload a file called image.jpg.

I was also unable to get the URL upload to work, either.

I've sent email to support, but received no response.

Seeing as how these issues have been going on for at least a year, is there any indication that Weather Underground is working on the problem?

I'm sure not going to waste any more time on it...

TIA,

Scot

After I put the number of tiket in this forum, they have solved the problem, the password is working and the camera is currently uploading the images without problems. Thank you very much.

DNS Cache Resolver
To begin with, computers or browsers are unable to understand any URL on their own. Thus, a DNS is used to translate the websites into its respective IP address. DNS stands for Domain Name System and is actively used by all the operating systems.

I now I have a bloomsky I have called and called not reply on phone. I did everything like they told me and still not still on WU from it being registered! I just want to know the URL from live shots from my camera! Do anyone know how to get that so maybe I can FTP or URL to WU and see if it works! Obviously there has to be a URL from like bloomsky camera grabs that it uses every 5 mins it takes a shot of the sky from your SKY 2 what is so hard to give me the URL to my camera? Also does the SKY 2 have a rain gauge? I poured last night and no rain show up?

Douglas, are you trying to set up both a camera and a weather station using Bloomsky's software?  You can probably do one or the other, but both will not work  I have seen this again and again.

Something that gets to me is when the Camera will be online, working fine, then all of a sudden it won't upload for 20 or 30 minutes though I show it did. Then when you check your devices online it will show it's offline! Now I didn't make any changes to it. Then I leave it, walk away and come back 30 minutes later and it's online and fine. We got 2 inches of rain in 45 minutes and was coming down at 5 inches an hour rate last night. The camera caught nothing. It actually did nothing all night long. But now this morning its up and working again. Go figure.

My uploads are working fine: two cams, jpg images scaled to 145 kilobytes, uploaded 24 images per hour--for years. Why, then, does the https://www.wunderground.com/member/devices dashboard persist indefinitely in claiming that my cams are "offline"?

IBM is just driving me crazy. Where do I complain, to get action? Why don't they overhaul their servers, given that they run their own cloud service and it'd cost them nothing to scale this thing up to do the right thing (storing high def images at a rate of 1 a minute from 20,000 of us just isn't hard at all these days, and simple math shows how little it would cost).

What is the name of the manager who runs this service and what is their phone number?

I wish I had an answer I have a Bloomsky and it uses and API and IBM could set up a way to use API just like they do for the FTP and the URL. If they had an API option I am most certain my cam pics would upload to WU.
