What happened to all the BEST features of Wundermap????

Remember the days when you clicked radar and could see the storm tracks and echo top?
Remember the days Wundermap just worked as expected :)  Do we have any plans to bring back the storm track feature?  This was the best way to see predicted direction and size of storms as well the hail size and percentage.  Please bring this back!

https://www.weathertap.com/ This one really looks promising but you have to sign up and after so long you have to pay, Try it out I can't pay for anything on a retired budget SMH. If I really like it it will make me ill when I have to pay.

I can certainly understand the need for Wundermap, especially where there are many severe storms.  Thank goodness I don't live in an area like that.  I have a PWS and the information from it use to be uploaded about every minute and now it's uploaded about every 30 minutes.  A lot can happen within 30 minutes, especially with spring and summer severe storms  popping up.  They also down graded their format for PWS.

$7.95/month for weathertap?  Wow.  No thanks, I have enough corporations already bleeding me with this latest way they've discovered of squeezing more blood out of my Social Security turnip by charging monthly "subscription" fees for everything.  I had to ditch Amazon Prime and Microsoft Office when they started doing this.
The well is dry.  I'll have to stick with a free weather service... or one I already pay for that's included with my cable TV or internet provider fees.

Just a comment.

If any of you are not familiar with ZoomRadar.

You should take a look. Good stuff. Great radar and many features for us who like weather.

http://zoomradar.com/

Spread the word on different channels here if you like it.

There's actually a storm chaser right not posting live video from his auto.

Sad, but it seems WU and The Weather Channel have ignored our continuing request for some type of communication.

I did check out zoomradar. Looks like during a hurricane or something it would be good. They also want you to pay.

As other people have mentioned, check out www.windy.com

Apart from being very good, it is also totally free.

Probably this is a technical problem on your side, rather than the windy site.

I really wanted to like Windy.  I downloaded the app, created an account, everything.  The map just wasn't accurate.  There I was, staring out my window at a downpour.  Wunderground showed yellow radar of the rain right over my street, Windy just displayed a light blue haze, 8 mins old, and not over my street yet.  I kept refreshing hoping it would catch up, but too late, the weather had already moved on.

I switched to the Weather Channel tonight and was totally surprised by what I saw.  There are probably many others that know this, but Weather Channel is now Weather Underground.  Hmm!

@Terry Forshee

Did you report this on the Windy community?

https://community.windy.com/topic/3746/radar-data-needed-help-us-with-the-data-gathering?page=1

Radar layers are still heavily in development. Help them make improvements.

http://www.intellicast.com/ is about the best you can get for now. I use it but you can only do like 24 hour, but 90% of the time it is right on. Just had a large rain her and it was right on.

Another  free weather site suggestion I've been using that's excellent!  It has all the storm information that wunderground used to have -- and more:
(It's supported by ads, but they're not too bad and it's worth it IMO)

Wunderground is DEAD. Broken. The best weather forecasting website that ever existed is now pretty much so useless that it won't even load on either Chrome, Safari or Firefox, in my home, let alone at the state park where I work and have minimal internet connection.  Wunderground Classic was the sleekest designed weather website. I guess weather.gov is where I'll reset all of my homepage settings.  The Weather Channel is nothing if not exasperatingly predictable!!

Yep. I experienced the same thing last night.
They don't tell anyone accurate updates on what's going on.
Most of their software developers quit months ago.

My I recommend to not put all your weather eggs in this failing company.
Start uploading your data from your weather station's to here:

https://www.pwsweather.com

At least your data will be preserved and they have some really great API's at
Aeris Weather to get your data into your apps.

pwsweather was designed about 20 years ago and still looks terrible. Interface is just bad. I do send my weather data there but really, it looks even more dead than wunderground.

Windy are looking for weather station data. I think the future is there imho.

It's my understanding that the 'New WunderMap' utilizes JavaScript. Firefox, which I use on my ol VISTA work area never again bolsters NAPI which was the API to JavaScript Plugins . My IE V9 doesn't work any longer either

May want to try Google Chrome.  I'm still using it on one of my WinXP machines.  Seems to work fine, ...when WU is properly functioning.

May want to try win 3.11 too on the ol 386. You two serious about still using those operating systems? That's really cool not to be a smartass about it. Upload an image if possible of WU map on the XP O/S I'd love to see that. Maybe it's what the WU developers are using.

Haha!  Even I don't have the time and patience to try those old OS's.  Been tricky at times to keep WinXP Pro working well, ...certainly doesn't break any speed records bringing up the graphics.  Perhaps the WU folks are using an Altair or Commodore.  Their NEXRAD page still doesn't show the storm tracks grid, ...getting close to two years now.

Telephones don't do that and telephone clients are not by any stretch of the imagination intrigued aside from the absolute minimums. We are battling the larger part here. See my past posts regarding why telephones aren't really PCs and it's everything only a market BS publicity which many individuals have fallen into. A ton however not all. Likewise observe my posts regarding why unfortunately Microsoft possesses Linux and Git Hub. It's likewise terrible for Apple. The most recent Mint refresh is basically broken on the off chance that you need to run more established equipment. No solid drivers and things won't play on Crossover that did before the refresh.

From Windy.com, 21 January 2019: https://community.windy.com/topic/7551/would-you-like-to-report-your-weather-station-data-to-windy/1
@ivo said:
Would you like to report your weather station data to Windy?
Are you owner of personal weather station? Are you maintainer of network of weather stations?
We plan to create API endpoints so you could send your weather station data to us. Please help us to do this project by answering following questions:
1) What type of weather station you have
2) Do you report your data to some other Internet website?
3) How technically do you send your reports to this other website. Which software or protocol do you use.
4) Do you have any tips and ideas, how should our reporting API look like?
5) Would you be willing to offer your station data to anyone else (not only windy.com) as open data?
Please provide some feedback over on their forum using the above link.

We're glad to host a place for open discussion about the WU API transition.

We'd like to remind our PWS owners/contributors:
  • Your past data will always be available to you for viewing and download in a web browser on wunderground.com, just like it always has.
  • If you are in the small minority of people who use the WU API and a corresponding WU API key to obtain data in .json format, here's what's happening:
- We'll open a registration page for you to get a new API key to get your data in .json format
- You'll sign up and get a new API key for the new API
- Once the registration page is open, we'll keep the old API and your old API key active for 2 weeks to allow transition time to your new key

We'll announce in the forum when the registration page opens.

Or, email victoria.gardner@ibm.com if you're a PWS uploader to receive an email notification once it's ready.

The new API will provide access to:
  • Current observations from the PWS network
  • 5 day daily forecast
  • PWS historical data
  • PWS lookup by geocode, zip code and location
  • Call volume: 1500/day, 30/minute

The documentation for the new API is available here:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1eKCnKXI9xnoMGRRzOL1xPCBihNV2rOet08qpE_gArAY/edit

Victoria, re: "We'll open a registration page for you to get a new API key to get your data in .json format"
An XML format will no longer be available in the new program, only JSON?

Correct.  The new API will have data only in JSON.

One can make calls to APIs requesting data in various formats; two of the most common are XML and JSON.  This is the format the data is returned in.  The old WU API allowed for calls in either XML or JSON (or GIF or PNG or SWF, image files).  The new one allows for data calls only in JSON.

You can Google "what is json" (or xml) and there are various web pages and videos that describe it in more detail.

I hope that helps!
